Brunching in the Boroughs
02/24/16
Brunch is the meal I look forward to all week! It’s the perfect time to catch up with friends, shake off one too many cocktails from the night before with a little hair of the dog, or just experience an amazing meal that you can’t get Monday through Friday (bonus points that it’s served with champagne). There’s no shortage of amazing brunch spots in Charleston and no way I could pick a favorite! I did round up a must-visit brunch spot in each Borough though! Have a fabulous brunch anywhere on the peninsula.
1. Cannonborough: Hominy Grill
Hominy is the one of the Charleston brunch biggies! It deserves all the accolades though! Get there early, grab a drink from the outside bar window while you wait, and order the Charleston Nasty Biscuit! It tastes like gravy and love.
2. Elliotborough: Cannon Green
Beyond the food, you need to see inside of Cannon Green! A beautiful space that floods with sun in the morning, it feels like you’re dining al fresco! Get the French Toast and have a decadent experience from start to finish.
3. Eastside: Mercantile
Head over to the Cigar Factory and visit the Mercantile side of Mercantile and Mash. Grab a coffee, peruse the wares, and make sure to order the Huevos Ranchero Wrap.
4. Mayzk/Wraggborough: Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit
I think everyone in Charleston lined up when Callie opened her Hot Little Biscuit shop (I know I did)! You can't go wrong ordering their 3 biscuits for $5 and then adding every accoutrement that catches your eye! Bring friends and try everything or go alone and ensure yourself a spot at the tiny bar.
5. Radcliffborough: Westendorff
When the Westendorff opened they declared that brunch should be available every day of the week. Take in their beautiful restoration job while enjoying some of their Avocado Toast on steroids (must love mushrooms)!
6. Harleston Village: Queen St Grocery
One of our favorite lunch spots too, this charming corner grocery is a must-visit. Order any of their breakfast crepes and relax at a table outside, taking in the beauty of this classic neighborhood.
7. Ansonborough: Cru Café
Open Saturdays (but not Sundays) this one might technically count as lunch and not brunch, but I’ll take any excuse to eat their four cheese macaroni. Macaroni and prosecco sounds like the perfect meal! This is a can’t-miss for dinner too!
8. French Quarter: Minero
Mexican food for brunch is a match made in heaven. Everything on their menu is amazing! Start with the Chips and Salsas and one of their delicious cocktails and go from there!
9. South of Broad: Fast and French
So technically Fast and French is on Broad St and not south of it, but unless you're eating at a friend's fabulous home, finding brunch south of Broad is tricky. Order a croissant and French press coffee in this cozy spot for a delightfully French experience.
